Has anybody cleaned their gas fireplace themself? A do-it-yourself kind of thing? Or do you need to hire a professional? I am wondering how big of a chore this is.

"check with your gas supplier to find out if the composition of the gas has changed" yeah sure. The person you talk to at the gas company won't know crap about crap. They'll put you on hold for 30 minutes and then tell you "no".

Beware of companies that sell gas logs where the manufacturer offers "free" replacement to damaged or broken logs. We discovered that the shipping and handling cost for one broken log to be so outlandishly high it was better for us to buy new logs. Buyer beware!
