Fake Fireplace?
Someone left a comment asking for information on fake fireplaces. I wasn't sure if she wanted information on non-wood-burning units (we've got categories on gas inserts, and electric fireplaces, which provide warmth but only simulate real flames) or on how to create a faux/fake fireplace in a room that's just a surround and hearth. I've seen designers do that on HGTV (yeah, I'm a geek--I watch the Home and Garden Channel) in condos or houses without fireplaces in order to add a focal point to a room. Personally, I'd much rather have a gas or electric unit so it at least looks real, but if you just want to save some money with a DIY faux fireplace that's maybe lit with some candles, here are a couple articles on other sites that have how-to details:
Build a Faux Fireplace -- Speaking of HGTV, here's one of their how to guides. It has a video you can watch.
Cardboard Faux Fireplace -- This one doesn't look very real, but it's done with cardboard, so it won't break the bank.
Faux Fireplace Mural -- Has you doing some painting...
That ought to get you started with that fake fireplace. Good luck!
Thanks for your help! I want this firplace only for decor/art.. it is nice to have helpful folk around!

Hi, I have just added aline of Fake Fireplaces to our storefront location in Hamburg, Iowa. They are $175.00 each plus a small shipping charge. The surround is in 3 pieces and screws together. Instructions included. These are nice. I will have them on my website by 10-18-2007. Thank you.

Hi you might also want to try dvd fireplaces. I know it sounds a little funny but guess it depends on the quality of the tv you have. Check them out at the bottom of this site.
