See-Through Fireplaces
If you're doing a spot of remodeling and thinking of installing a wood-burning or gas fireplace, you may be considering a see-through model. The nice thing about see-through fireplaces is that you essentially get two hearths with only one chimney and one shared flue, which is of course cheaper than building two separate chimneys.
With gas fireplaces, you can even find models that are glass on three sides, which allows you to make sort of a peninsula out of the wall dividing two rooms. Many gas fireplaces don't even require a chimney and flue.
There's actually a long history of see-through fireplaces. In 19th century Victorian homes, you used to see these fireplaces in large front halls and adjoining parlors. Today, see-through fireplaces are particularly popular in master bedrooms and the adjoining master bathroom. If you get a model with a remote, you can even turn it on and off from the bed (or bath if you're so moved).

All the gas inserts I've seen are see through.
On the other hand, I've never seen a pellet stove with a glass front. I suspect, like wood-burning stoves, they're considered more hardcore heating solutions, rather than living room additions installed for ambiance. If you find anything, let us know!

I haven't seen any pellet stoves that had see-through glass fronts. I think they're more energy efficient if they use metal or something. Also pellets aren't as interesting to look at when they burn, not compared to real wood (or fake gas fireplaces).

I am looking for a see thru electric fireplace.

Heat&Glo makes an electric see through fireplace, but as far as I know, there are no "inserts" available in any heat producing gas, wood or pellet units yet. The see through fireplaces are available but don't go inside an existing fireplace.

I have a see thru gas fireplace by Regency that I want to divide so it is no longer see thru. Any suggestions? What about a double sided fireback? Could I put in a piece of sheetmetal with stove paint black as a divider and not cause problems with venting or air flow?

I found a couple of wood burning see thru fireplace inserts. There is one made by a Canadian co. called RSF which makes an insert called the oracle(www.icc-rsf.com). There are a few other types by Lennox, Fuego Flame, Heat and Glo, and Heatilator.

I am looking to buy the heat and glo see through electric fire but I am struggling to find a supplier. I want one in France but UK or Spain will do just as well. Any one know where I can get one or indeed if the fire is any good to look at?
