I was loitering at Barnes & Noble today and noticed at least five different magazines devoted to house plans. Who knew there were so many different layouts for homes? Well, ok, I did, but it was interesting to browse. Whether you're looking to do an addition or build a home from scratch, house plans can give you ideas to show an architect. Magazines are nice since you can rip out the pages without feeling guilty. Lots of people who are planning custom homes or rennovations keep scrap books or shoeboxes with plans, pictures, etc. that they want to show the architect when they're ready to get going. So next time you're at the bookstore, grab a couple home plan magazines off the shelf and get to browsing. If you find something you like, they're generally much cheaper than books. (Even cheaper if you get a subscription.)
